Octinoxate works by absorbing UV rays, thus stopping or at least slowing down the destruction of healthy skin cells. It also decreases the risk of skin cancer and other skin reactions caused by sunburn. Oxybenzone absorbs ultraviolet radiation and prevents it from reaching the deeper layers of the skin.
