How it works
Duotrol-SR Tablet is a combination of two antidiabetic medicines: Glibenclamide and Metformin. Glibenclamide is a sulfonylurea which works by increasing the amount of insulin released by the pancreas in order to lower the blood glucose. Metformin is a biguanide which works by lowering glucose production in the liver, delaying glucose absorption from intestines and increasing the body's sensitivity to insulin.
Unsafe: Avoid consuming alcohol with Duotrol-SR Tablet as it is deemed unsafe.
Safe when prescribed by an expert: Duotrol-SR Tablet is generally considered safe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown low or no adverse effects to the developing baby; however, there are limited human studies.
Caution Advised: Duotrol-SR Tablet should be used with caution during breastfeeding. Breastfeeding should be held until the treatment of the mother is completed and the drug is eliminated from her body.
Seek medical advice from your doctor: It is not known whether Duotrol-SR Tablet alters the ability to drive. Do not drive if you experience any symptoms that affect your ability to concentrate and react.
Not Safe: Duotrol-SR Tablet is probably unsafe to use in patients with kidney disease and should be avoided. Doctor consultation is advised.
Caution Advised: Duotrol-SR Tablet should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Dose adjustment of Duotrol-SR Tablet may be needed. Doctor consultation is advised. Duotrol-SR Tablet is generally started with low dose in patients with mild to moderate liver disease and its use is not recommended in patients with severe liver disease.
What if I forget to take it?
If a dose of Duotrol-SR Tablet is missed, take it promptly. However, if your next dose is approaching, skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule. Avoid doubling the dose.
