It soothes the area and gives relief from burning sensation. Apply Anaproct Ointment as prescribed for faster healing. Make sure to avoid spicy, oil-rich food and take plenty of fibers to aid in digestion and thus prevent hard stools.

Anaproct Ointment is a combination of four medicines: Hydrocortisone, Zinc Oxide, Lidocaine, and Allantoin, that helps treat anal fissures . Hydrocortisone is a steroid which blocks the production of certain chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that make the skin red, swollen and itchy. Zinc Oxide has astringent and antiseptic action. Lidocaine is a local anesthetic which works by blocking pain signals from the nerves to the brain thereby decreasing pain sensation. Allantoin is a skin protectant that moisturizes and softens the skin.

Sometimes certain medicines like iron tablets, antibiotics might make your stools hard and difficult to pass. Inform your doctor if you are taking any of them. Apart from using Anaproct Ointment, you can indulge in warm baths. It may help soothe the area and thus may ease the pain. Don't ignore the feeling of needing to pass stools. Some people suppress this feeling and put off going to the toilet until later. This may result in bigger and harder stools forming that are more difficult to pass later. A fibre rich diet (wholegrain breads and cereals, fruit and green leafy vegetables) with six to eight full glasses of water each day and daily exercise are important in maintaining healthy bowel function.
