Dericip 300mg Retard Pr Tablet 10s is a bronchodilator combination medication containing Etofylline and Theophylline. It is primarily used to treat and prevent symptoms of asthma, chronic bronchitis, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Both active ingredients belong to a class of drugs called xanthines. They work by relaxing the smooth muscles of the airways in the lungs, making it easier for patients to breathe. This combination is particularly effective for managing chronic "wheezing," shortness of breath, and chest tightness by keeping the air passages open over an extended period.
Dericip 300mg Retard Pr Tablet 10s is an oral respiratory treatment that combines two potent xanthine derivatives to provide a sustained bronchodilatory effect. This ratio is designed to maximise airflow while minimising the potential for side effects associated with higher doses of single-agent stimulants.
Composition and Mechanism: Each tablet contains of Etofylline and Theophylline. Theophylline works by inhibiting the enzyme phosphodiesterase, which increases cyclic AMP levels in cells; this causes the muscles around the bronchial tubes to relax. It also helps the diaphragm contract more effectively, improving air intake. Etofylline, a derivative of theophylline, acts similarly but is often better tolerated and more soluble. Together, they decrease the lungs' over-responsiveness to allergens and irritants, effectively "opening up" the chest.
Major Therapeutic Uses: Dericip 300mg Retard Pr Tablet 10s is indicated for the maintenance treatment of reversible airway obstruction. It is a staple for patients with chronic asthma and COPD who require daily medication to prevent attacks. It is also used to treat "cardiac asthma" (breathlessness caused by heart failure) and to manage apnea in certain clinical settings. Because it helps clear mucus by improving the movement of the "cilia" (tiny hairs in the airway), it is often prescribed for chronic bronchitis, where thick phlegm is a major issue.
Benefits and Precautions: The primary benefit of this combination is its long-lasting effect, which helps prevent "nocturnal asthma" or early morning breathlessness. However, significant precautions are necessary regarding heart and liver health. These ingredients can stimulate the heart, potentially causing a rapid or irregular heartbeat. Precautions are also needed for patients with stomach ulcers, as xanthines can increase stomach acid production. It is critical to note that the way the body processes these drugs can be affected by smoking, fever, and other medications.
Medical Supervision and Risks: Treatment must be closely supervised by a healthcare provider. The "therapeutic window" for xanthines is narrow, meaning the difference between a helpful dose and a toxic dose can be small. Major risks include seizures and serious heart arrhythmias if blood levels become too high. Patients should be monitored for signs of toxicity, such as persistent vomiting or extreme restlessness. This medication is not a "rescue inhaler" and should not be used for a sudden, acute asthma attack where rapid-acting medication is required.
Dericip 300mg Retard Pr Tablet 10s (Etofylline + Theophylline ) is indicated for:
Long-term prevention of wheezing and chest tightness.
Improving airflow in patients with emphysema or chronic bronchitis.
Reducing the inflammation and obstruction of the bronchial tubes.
Preventing shortness of breath that occurs during sleep.
Dericip 300mg Retard Pr Tablet 10s offers a "dual-xanthine" approach to respiratory health. Its primary medicinal benefit is sustained relaxation of bronchial smooth muscle. By preventing airway constriction (narrowing), it reduces the work of breathing, allowing patients to stay more active and improving their overall quality of life.
One of the significant advantages of the combination is its effect on the respiratory muscles. Beyond just opening the airways, it strengthens the diaphragm—the main muscle used for breathing. This is especially beneficial for elderly patients or those with advanced COPD whose breathing muscles have become tired or weak. This "ventilatory drive" support helps ensure that the lungs are fully emptied and refilled with each breath.
Furthermore, Dericip 300mg Retard Pr Tablet 10s provides an anti-inflammatory effect. It reduces the body’s reaction to environmental triggers like dust, smoke, or cold air. By lowering airway sensitivity, it reduces the frequency of "flare-ups" that often lead to hospital visits. Because the dose is balanced between Etofylline and Theophylline, it provides a stable drug level in the bloodstream, reducing the "ups and downs" in breathing ability that can occur with shorter-acting medications.
Usually safe, but be cautious if you feel dizzy or restless.
Not recommended unless essential. Theophylline crosses the placenta. Consult your doctor.
Alcohol can increase the risk of side effects like nausea and headache.
Best taken after food to protect the stomach lining.
If you start or stop smoking, tell your doctor immediately; it changes how fast the drug leaves your body.
Store Dericip 300mg Retard Pr Tablet 10s at room temperature (below 25°C). Keep the tablets in their original moisture-proof blister pack. Protect from heat and direct light. Keep out of reach of children.
This antibiotic can dangerously increase the levels of Theophylline in your blood.
Can slow down the removal of Dericip 300mg Retard Pr Tablet 10s, increasing the risk of toxicity.
This seizure medication can make Dericip 300mg Retard Pr Tablet 10s less effective.
It may cause the airways to narrow, working against the effects of the medicine.
The dosage is highly individualised and must be adjusted by a doctor. A common Initial Dose for adults is one tablet twice or three times daily after meals.
Depending on your response and the results of your breathing tests, your doctor may adjust the Maintenance Dose. Because blood levels are so important, your doctor may occasionally perform a "Theophylline Level" blood test to ensure the dose is safe and effective. The Maximum Dose depends on body weight and clinical condition; never increase the dose on your own.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one. Do not take two tablets at once to catch up, as this significantly increases the risk of heart palpitations and nausea.
