How Dapagliflozin Works Dapagliflozin is an antidiabetic medication that functions by eliminating excess sugar from the body through urine.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Dapagliflozin include genital fungal infection, nausea, nasopharyngitis (inflammation of the throat and nasal passages), urinary tract infection, polyuria, increased appetite, vomiting, and constipation.

  • Dapagliflozin is used alone or in combination with other diabetes medications to control blood sugar levels and prevent long-term complications.
  • It may lead to dehydration due to excessive fluid loss, causing you to urinate more frequently. Ensure you drink plenty of water and stay hydrated.
  • Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar levels) may occur when used with other antidiabetic medications, alcohol, or if you delay or miss a meal.
  • Always carry sugary food or fruit juice to manage hypoglycemia symptoms such as cold sweats, cool pale skin, tremors, and anxiety.
  • Dapagliflozin can cause genital fungal infections and/or urinary tract infections (UTIs) in both females and males; therefore, practice good hygiene.
  • Regularly monitor your blood sugar levels while taking this medication.
  • Inform your doctor immediately if you experience persistent dizziness, joint pain, cold-like symptoms, or unexplained nausea/vomiting.
  • Dapagliflozin also reduces the risk of heart attack, heart failure, and other cardiovascular events.
  • Continue to exercise regularly, maintain a healthy diet, and take any other prescribed diabetes medications alongside Dapagliflozin.
  • This medication may also contribute to weight loss and lower blood pressure.
