Dapagliflozin, Metformin, and Sitagliptin are used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus.

How it Works

How Dapagliflozin, Metformin, and Sitagliptin Work Dapagliflozin, Metformin, and Sitagliptin is a combination of three antidiabetic medications. Dapagliflozin increases urinary glucose excretion and lowers blood glucose levels. Metformin reduces the amount of glucose absorbed from food and decreases the glucose produced by the liver. Additionally, Metformin enhances the body's response to insulin, a natural hormone that regulates blood glucose levels. Sitagliptin helps manage blood sugar levels by increasing the levels of incretins in the body, which prompts the pancreas to release more insulin. It also signals the liver to stop producing glucose when blood sugar levels are elevated.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Dapagliflozin, Metformin, and Sitagliptin include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, flatulence, polyuria, dyslipidemia, genital fungal infection, nasopharyngitis (inflammation of the throat and nasal passages), urinary tract infection, headache, hypoglycemia (low blood glucose level), conjunctivitis, and cough.

  • Your doctor will regularly monitor your blood sugar levels and kidney function while you are taking this medication.
  • Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) may occur when Dapagliflozin + Metformin + Sitagliptin is taken with other antidiabetic medications, alcohol, or if you delay or skip a meal.
  • Check your blood sugar levels and consume a snack or sugar source for immediate relief if needed.
  • If you experience unusual thirst, increased urination, or fatigue, inform your doctor. These may be signs of elevated blood sugar levels, indicating that your dosage may require adjustment.
  • Lifestyle changes, such as adopting a low-fat and low-salt diet, exercising regularly, avoiding smoking, and reducing alcohol intake, may enhance the effectiveness of this medication.
