In Acute renal failure : Mannitol IV 20% Injection is used to increase urine production in cases of kidney failure. This means it is also used to treat or prevent medical conditions that are caused by an increase in body fluids/water such as recent kidney failure called acute renal (kidney) failure. It is given as an injection by a doctor or nurse and should not be self-administered. In Cerebral edema (accumulation of excessive fluid in the brain)Symptoms of brain swelling (cerebral edema) include headache, dizziness, nausea, numbness or weakness, loss of coordination or balance, loss of the ability to see or speak, seizures (fits), memory loss, incontinence, or altered level of consciousness. Mannitol IV 20% Injection decreases brain volume by decreasing overall water content in the brain. This helps to reduce the accumulation of excessive fluid in the brain.
