In Heartburn Heartburn is a burning feeling in your chest caused by stomach acids travelling back up towards your throat and mouth (acid reflux). It happens because a muscle above your stomach relaxes too much and allows stomach contents and acid to come back up into your esophagus and mouth. This can be a symptom of indigestion (dyspepsia). Axid Capsule belongs to a group of medicines called histamine 2 antagonists. It works by reducing the amount of acid your stomach makes and relieves the pain associated with heartburn and indigestion. You should take it exactly as it is prescribed or as it says on the label for it to be effective. Some simple lifestyle changes can help stop or reduce heartburn. Think about what foods trigger heartburn and try to avoid them; eat smaller more frequent meals; try to lose weight if you are overweight and try to find ways to relax. Do not eat within 3?4 hours of going to bed. It reduces the amount of acid your stomach makes which prevents further damage to the ulcer as it heals naturally. You may be given other medicines depending on what caused the ulcer. You need to keep taking the medicine as it is prescribed for it to be effective, even if the symptoms seem to disappear. It may also be prescribed to prevent stomach ulcers from forming by reducing the amount of acid.

Alcohol

Unsafe: Avoid consuming alcohol with Axid Capsule as it is deemed unsafe.

Pregnancy

Safe when prescribed by an expert: Axid Capsule is generally considered safe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown low or no adverse effects to the developing baby; however, there are limited human studies.

Breast feeding

Safe when prescribed by an expert: Axid Capsule is probably safe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent any significant risk to the baby.

Driving

SAFE - Axid Capsule does not usually affect your ability to drive.

Kidney

Caution Advised: Axid Capsule should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Axid Capsule may be needed. Doctor consultation is advised.

Liver

Seek medical advice from your doctor: There is limited information available on the use of Axid Capsule in patients with liver disease. Doctor consultation is advised.

If a dose of Axid Capsule is missed, take it promptly. However, if your next dose is approaching, skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule. Avoid doubling the dose.

Store in a cool and dry place, and keep the temperature below 30�C

Take�Axid Capsule before going to bed if you are taking this medicine once a day.�It is very effective in controlling stomach acid that is released when you are asleep. If you are also taking other medications to treat acidity (e.g., antacid), take them 2 hours before or after taking Axid Capsule. Avoid taking soft drinks, citrus fruits like orange and lemon, which can irritate the stomach and increase acid secretion. Inform your doctor if you do not feel better after taking Axid Capsule for 2 weeks as you may be suffering from some other problems. Inform your doctor if you have ever been diagnosed with kidney disease as dose of your medicine may need to be adjusted. Do not stop taking the medication without talking to your doctor.
