Zetimax 10mg Tablet contains Ezetimibe, a medication used to lower high cholesterol levels in the blood, particularly LDL-C (Low-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol), which is often referred to as “bad cholesterol.” High levels of LDL-C can lead to the buildup of fatty deposits in the arteries, increasing the risk of heart attack and stroke. Ezetimibe is especially helpful for people who cannot tolerate statins or need additional cholesterol-lowering support alongside statin therapy.

Ezetimibe works by targeting a specific protein in the small intestine called NPC1L1 (Niemann-Pick C1-Like 1). • Primary Hypercholesterolemia: Used alone or in combination with an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin) to lower elevated total cholesterol, LDL-C, and ApoB (Apolipoprotein B).

• Homogenous Familial Hypercholesterolemia (HoFH): Used in combination with a statin to reduce elevated cholesterol levels.

• Sitosterolemia (Phytosterolemia): A rare genetic disorder characterised by high plant sterol levels; Zetimax 10mg Tablet helps reduce these levels.

• Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease (ASCVD) Risk Reduction: Used in combination with a statin to reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events, such as heart attack and stroke.

• Effective LDL-C Reduction: Provides a significant reduction in LDL-C (bad cholesterol), which is a key factor in the development of atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries).

• Routine Testing is Key: Your doctor will need to check your liver function (LFTs) and lipid profile periodically (usually every 3-6 months) to ensure the medication is working safely and effectively.

The following drugs may interact with Zetimax 10mg Tablet:

• Fibrates (e.g., Fenofibrate, Gemfibrozil): Using Ezetimibe with Gemfibrozil is generally not recommended, as it may increase the risk of gallstones and increase Ezetimibe levels.

• Cyclosporine: Co-administration significantly increases the exposure of Ezetimibe. Dose adjustment and close monitoring are required.

• Bile Acid Sequestrants (e.g., Cholestyramine, Colestipol): These medications significantly reduce the absorption of Zetimax 10mg Tablet. Zetimax 10mg Tablet must be taken at least 2 hours before or 4 hours after taking a bile acid sequestrant.

If you miss a dose of Zetimax 10mg Tablet, take it as soon as you remember.
