Kumagyl Forte Tablet is a combination medicine used in the treatment of diarrhea. It kills diarrhea-causing bacteria. It also manages the symptoms of diarrhea such as stomach pain, cramps, loose stools and helps in easy passage of gas. Kumagyl Forte Tablet is taken with food in a dose and duration as advised by the doctor. The dose you are given will depend on your condition and how you respond to the medicine. You should keep taking this medicine for as long as your doctor recommends. If you discontinue treatment prematurely, there is a risk of symptom recurrence and worsening of your condition. Let your healthcare team know about all other medications you are taking as some may affect, or be affected by this medicine. The most common side effects are nausea, dryness in mouth, flatulence, headache, and metallic taste. Most of these are temporary and usually resolve with time. Contact your doctor straight away if you are at all concerned about any of these side effects. This medicine may also cause dizziness and sleepiness, so do not drive or do anything that requires mental focus until you know how this medicine affects you. How it works

Kumagyl Forte Tablet is a combination of three medicines: Metronidazole, diloxanide and simethicone. Metronidazole is an antibiotic which kills bacteria and other infectious microorganisms by damaging the DNA. Diloxanide is combined with metronidazole in case of severe intestinal infections. Diloxanide is a luminal amoebicide which acts inside the intestines to kill the infection-causing microorganisms (amoeba). Simethicone is an antifoaming medicine which disintegrates gas bubbles and allows easy passage of gas.

Quick Tips for Kumagyl Forte Tablet

You have been prescribed Kumagyl Forte Tablet for the treatment of diarrhea. Diarrhea can cause water loss and electrolyte imbalance. Drink plenty of fluids especially ORS (oral rehydration solution) to help keep you hydrated. Stick to simple meals and avoid spicy rich food in order to avoid feeling sick (nausea). Dry mouth may occur as a side effect. Frequent mouth rinses, good oral hygiene, increased water intake and sugarless candy may help. Do not drink alcohol while taking and till 4 days after taking this medication. This is because drinking alcohol with Kumagyl Forte Tablet is likely to make you feel very sick (nauseated) and cause other unpleasant effects, such as hot flushes, headaches, and palpitations (fast heartbeat). Consult your doctor if your diarrhea lasts for more than 48 hours.
