Fluvent Az Nasal Spray is a prescription nasal spray used to manage seasonal and year-round allergy symptoms. It combines two different types of medicine: an antihistamine (azelastine) to stop immediate reactions like sneezing, and a corticosteroid (fluticasone propionate) to reduce persistent nasal swelling. This combination is often more effective than using either medication on its own.

Fluvent Az Nasal Spray (Azelastine Hydrochloride + Fluticasone Propionate) is a fixed-dose combination nasal spray formulated as a white, uniform metered-dose intranasal suspension. It is clinically indicated for the relief of seasonal allergic rhinitis (SAR) in adults and children 6 years of age and older.

The azelastine in the formula works by blocking histamine receptors, which helps stop an itchy or runny nose shortly after application. Fluticasone propionate, the steroid component, targets the deeper inflammatory response. It calms the swelling and mucus production that lead to chronic congestion. While you may feel some relief quickly, the full anti-inflammatory benefit builds up over several days of regular use.

• Blow your nose gently first. Lean your head forward slightly so you are looking toward your feet.

• Insert the tip into one nostril. Point the nozzle toward the outside wall of your nose, away from the centre.

• Close the other nostril with your finger and spray once while breathing in gently. Repeat in the other nostril if directed.

• Wipe the tip with a clean tissue and replace the cap. Try not to blow your nose for at least 15 minutes.

It also inhibits other inflammatory mediators, including leukotrienes and mast cell-derived substances, providing an additional anti-inflammatory effect beyond simple histamine blockade.

• Fluticasone propionate is a synthetic trifluorinated glucocorticoid that binds with high affinity to intracellular glucocorticoid receptors. After binding, it acts at the gene level to suppress the production of inflammatory cytokines, chemokines, and other mediators responsible for nasal mucosal swelling, excess secretions, and tissue inflammation. This gradually reduces congestion and chronic inflammatory changes in the nasal lining with continued regular use.

The combination provides faster onset of symptom relief through azelastine and sustained reduction in underlying inflammation through fluticasone propionate. These effects are additive and clinically more effective than either agent used alone.

• Tilt forward while using: Keep your head slightly forward during spraying. Tilting backwards may cause the medicine to drip into the throat, leading to a bitter taste and reduced effect in the nose.

• Aim away from the middle of the nose: Direct the spray slightly outward to avoid irritation of the nasal septum and improve comfort during use.

• Use opposite hand technique: Use the right hand for the left nostril and the left hand for the right nostril. This helps with better spray direction inside the nasal passage.

• Prime when needed: If the spray has not been used for about two weeks or more, prime it with a spray or two into the air before using it again.

• Use regularly for best effect: Relief may start early with azelastine, but fluticasone takes a few days of consistent use to show full benefit. Do not stop early, even if symptoms improve.

• Do not share the spray: The device is for individual use only to prevent the spread of infections.

• Follow discard instructions: Dispose of the bottle after the recommended number of sprays as mentioned on the label, even if some liquid remains.

Store the bottle upright at room temperature. Do not refrigerate or freeze it. Keep the cap on and keep the medicine out of reach of children.
