Eldeom D 10 Mg 20 Mg Capsule is a fixed-dose combination capsule containing Omeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI), and Domperidone, a prokinetic agent. It is primarily prescribed for the treatment of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) and Peptic Ulcer Disease, especially when these conditions are complicated by nausea, vomiting, or delayed gastric emptying (dyspepsia). Omeprazole reduces the amount of acid produced by the stomach, allowing ulcers and erosions to heal, while Domperidone increases the movement of the stomach and intestines, preventing food and acid from flowing back into the oesophagus.
Eldeom D 10 Mg 20 Mg Capsule provides dual therapeutic action against common upper gastrointestinal conditions such as persistent acidity, heartburn, and gastrointestinal motility issues. The combination of Omeprazole and Domperidone offers superior relief compared to using an acid blocker alone, particularly in patients who experience delayed gastric emptying or GERD refractory to monotherapy.
Omeprazole is a powerful Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI). It suppresses the stomach’s capacity to produce acid by targeting the acid-secreting pumps in the stomach lining. This sustained acid reduction promotes the healing of ulcers and damaged oesophageal tissue. Simultaneously, Domperidone, a prokinetic and antiemetic drug, enhances the natural muscular contractions of the upper digestive tract. This action speeds up the downward movement of food, reducing bloating and the pressure that forces stomach contents back into the oesophagus. Furthermore, Domperidone’s antiemetic properties help to control associated symptoms like nausea and vomiting. By combining these two mechanisms, acid suppression and enhanced motility, Eldeom D 10 Mg 20 Mg Capsule not only treats the symptoms but also addresses the underlying causes of acid reflux and indigestion.
Eldeom D 10 Mg 20 Mg Capsule is indicated for the treatment of:
Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD): Including erosive esophagitis, to heal the damage caused by acid reflux and relieve symptoms like heartburn.
Non-Ulcer Dyspepsia (Functional Dyspepsia): To relieve symptoms of fullness, bloating
Peptic Ulcer Disease: Used in combination with antibiotics (H. pylori eradication therapy) or alone to heal and prevent recurrence of stomach and duodenal ulcers.
Conditions where acid secretion and impaired gut motility coexist.
The combination of Omeprazole and Domperidone offers synergistic benefits:
Complete Symptom Control: Omeprazole provides powerful acid suppression (treating the root cause), while Domperidone manages motility-related symptoms like nausea, vomiting, and bloating (treating associated symptoms).
Enhanced Healing: By maintaining a reduced acid environment, Omeprazole accelerates the healing of gastric and duodenal mucosal lesions.
Reduced Reflux: Domperidone's action on the lower oesophageal sphincter prevents acid and food contents from moving back into the oesophagus, significantly improving GERD symptoms.
While generally safe for short-term use, both components can cause side effects.
Always take Eldeom D 10 Mg 20 Mg Capsule exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
Caution is required for patients with:
The co-administration of Eldeom D 10 Mg 20 Mg Capsule with certain drugs can be hazardous, particularly those that affect the QTc interval or the metabolism of Domperidone (via CYP3A4 inhibition).
Critical Contraindications (Due to Domperidone)
QTc Prolonging Drugs: Avoid combining with other medicines that prolong the QTc interval (e.g., certain anti-arrhythmics like Amiodarone, some antifungals like Ketoconazole, and some antibiotics like Erythromycin). This significantly increases the risk of serious cardiac arrhythmia.
CYP3A4 Inhibitors: Strong inhibitors of this liver enzyme (e.g., Ketoconazole, Ritonavir, Clarithromycin) must be avoided, as they dramatically increase Domperidone levels, leading to toxicity.
Interactions that Reduce Acid Suppression (Omeprazole)
Clopidogrel: Omeprazole reduces the effectiveness of this antiplatelet drug, increasing the risk of cardiovascular events. A non-interacting PPI (like Pantoprazole) is often preferred.
Interactions that Affect Other Medications
Iron Salts/Calcium Carbonate: Reduced stomach acid (from Omeprazole) decreases the absorption of these supplements. They should be taken separately.
The dose is determined based on the severity of the condition.
An overdose may cause severe symptoms related to both components:
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is already close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed one. If you remember after eating, take the missed dose and wait until the next day to resume the pre-meal timing.
