Uses

Racecadotril Uses Racecadotril is used in the treatment of diarrhea. It is indicated when fluid and dietary measures are not sufficiently effective in controlling diarrhea.

How it Works

How Racecadotril works Racecadotril has an anti-secretory effect. It reduces the secretion of water and electrolytes from the intestine, which helps decrease fluid loss from the body during diarrhea.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Racecadotril include vomiting, dizziness, general discomfort, and headache.

Expert Advice

  • Racecadotril should be used in conjunction with an oral rehydration solution (ORS) to ensure adequate fluid and electrolyte replacement.
  • Avoid using Racecadotril if you have:
    • Blood and pus in the stools
    • Fever (may indicate a bacterial infection requiring different treatment)
    • Uncontrolled vomiting
    • Kidney or liver problems (inform your doctor if you have a history of these conditions)
    • Children less than 3 months old
  • Racecadotril is not recommended for use for more than 7 days.
  • Racecadotril sachets should be taken orally, either directly or mixed with water. Ensure it is mixed well, and administer the total dose immediately to your child.
  • Racecadotril is not approved for use in adults and children over 13 years of age.
