This medicine is typically prescribed under medical supervision for the following conditions:

Respiratory Tract Infections

Such as acute bronchitis, pneumonia, and secondary bacterial infections of chronic bronchitis.

ENT Infections

Such as sinusitis, tonsillitis, pharyngitis, and otitis media (middle ear infection).

Urinary Tract Infections

Such as uncomplicated bladder or kidney infections.

Bacterial Skin Infections

To treat uncomplicated infections of the skin and skin structures.

Lyme Disease

Used to treat early Lyme disease in adults and children.

Stop using Zeftu 500 Tablet and call your doctor at once if you have:

• Severe stomach pain, diarrhea that is watery or bloody (even if it occurs months after your last dose).

• Jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes), dark urine, or pale stools.

• A seizure or convulsion.

• Kidney problems: little or no urination, swelling in your feet or ankles.

• Signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

• Take this medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Follow all directions on your prescription label.

• Cefuroxime tablets should be taken with food to help your body absorb the medicine better.

• Do not crush, chew, or break a cefuroxime tablet. Swallow it whole with a full glass of water.

• If you are using the oral suspension (liquid), shake the bottle well before each dose. Measure the dose with the provided measuring device.

• Complete the full course of this medicine even if your symptoms improve before you finish it.

• Cefuroxime tablets and oral suspension are not bioequivalent and cannot be substituted for each other on a milligram-per-milligram basis.

• Using this medicine when it is not needed or not finishing the full course can lead to antibiotic resistance.

• Inform any doctor, dentist, or surgeon treating you that you are taking this medication.

Store tablets at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Keep the bottle tightly closed. The reconstituted oral suspension should be stored in the refrigerator and any unused portion must be thrown away after 10 days. Keep all drugs out of the reach of children and pets.

• Food: Taking the tablet formulation with food significantly increases the amount of drug your body absorbs. Take it after a meal.

Tell your doctor about all your other medicines, especially:

• Antacids or H2 blockers: Medicines that reduce stomach acid (like ranitidine, famotidine, or omeprazole) can make cefuroxime tablets less effective.

• Probenecid: Can increase the levels of cefuroxime in your blood by slowing down its removal by the kidneys.

• Oral contraceptives: Antibiotics may slightly decrease the effectiveness of birth control pills.

Tell your doctor if you have ever had:

• Kidney disease.

• Liver disease.

• A history of stomach or intestinal disease, such as colitis.

• A history of severe allergies to penicillins or other cephalosporins.

The dose of Zeftu 500 Tablet depends on the type and location of the infection being treated. For adults, typical doses range from 250mg to 500mg taken twice a day for 7 to 10 days. Your doctor will determine the exact dose and duration appropriate for your specific condition.

An overdose of cefuroxime can cause cerebral irritation, leading to convulsions or seizures, especially in people with kidney disease. If an overdose is suspected, seek medical advice or contact the Poison Help line right away.

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not take extra medicine or use a double dose to make up for a missed one.
