Dantox Toothpaste 50gm is a medicated toothpaste used in the management of dental sensitivity and the prevention of dental caries and gum disease. It contains potassium nitrate (which reduces the nerve sensitivity that causes pain from hot, cold, or sweet stimuli), sodium monofluorophosphate (a fluoride source that strengthens tooth enamel and helps prevent cavities), and triclosan (an antibacterial agent that reduces plaque and gum inflammation). The combination provides desensitising, anti-cavity, and anti-plaque action in a single daily toothpaste.

Dental sensitivity is a common complaint that causes sharp, short-lived pain from hot, cold, sweet, or acidic stimuli. It occurs when the dentine (the layer beneath tooth enamel) is exposed, allowing stimuli to reach the nerve through tiny tubules in the dentine. Causes include gum recession, enamel wear, and acidic erosion.
Potassium nitrate works on the nerves inside dentine. The potassium ions accumulate around nerve endings inside the dentine tubules, reducing the ability of these nerves to fire when a stimulus reaches them. Sustained twice-daily use over 2 to 4 weeks is typically needed for full benefit.
Sodium monofluorophosphate is a fluoride source. Fluoride strengthens tooth enamel by replacing hydroxyl groups in the crystalline structure of hydroxyapatite to form fluorapatite, which is more resistant to acid attack from plaque bacteria. Fluoride also reduces the ability of plaque bacteria to produce acid from sugar, lowering the overall acid challenge to the enamel.
Triclosan is a broad-spectrum antibacterial agent that disrupts bacterial cell membranes and inhibits a key bacterial fatty acid synthesis enzyme. In oral care, it reduces the bacterial load in dental plaque, particularly the bacteria involved in gum inflammation (gingivitis) and the destructive form of gum disease (periodontitis).
Together, the three components address sensitivity, cavity risk, and gum health in a single daily-use product.
Apply a pea-sized amount of Dantox Toothpaste 50gm to a soft-bristle toothbrush. Brush thoroughly for at least 2 minutes, twice daily, paying attention to the gum margin and all tooth surfaces. After brushing, spit out the foam — do not rinse vigorously with water immediately afterwards, as this washes away the fluoride before it has time to act on the enamel. For sensitivity, continue use for at least 2–4 weeks to allow the desensitising effect of potassium nitrate to build up. Children under 6 years should use a smaller amount under adult supervision to avoid swallowing toothpaste. See your dentist regularly.
Potassium nitrate releases potassium ions into the dentine tubules of exposed dentine. These ions accumulate around the nerve endings deep inside the dentine and depolarise them in a way that reduces their ability to fire when temperature, sweet, or touch stimuli reach them. The effect is gradual and depends on consistent twice-daily use over weeks.
Research reveals that consistent daily use over several weeks is more important than the first few applications when treating dentine sensitivity with potassium nitrate, because the desensitising effect builds up as potassium ions accumulate around the nerve endings inside the dentine.
Sodium monofluorophosphate releases fluoride ions in the mouth. Fluoride is incorporated into the hydroxyapatite of tooth enamel, forming fluorapatite, which is more resistant to acid demineralisation than the original mineral. Fluoride also inhibits bacterial enzymes involved in acid production from dietary sugars, reducing the overall acid challenge to the enamel.
Triclosan is a broad-spectrum antibacterial that disrupts bacterial cell membranes and inhibits the enoyl-acyl carrier protein reductase enzyme involved in bacterial fatty acid synthesis. In dental plaque, triclosan reduces the bacterial population, especially those species that lead to gum inflammation. Reducing plaque biofilm helps prevent the progression from gingivitis (gum inflammation) to periodontitis (destruction of the structures supporting teeth).
Accidental swallowing of Dantox Toothpaste 50gm, especially in young children, can cause stomach upset, nausea, and vomiting due to fluoride content. Further, large ingestions can cause more serious effects and warrant medical advice. Keep toothpaste out of reach of young children and assist them while they brush their teeth.
If you miss a brushing session, brush as soon as you remember. Consistent twice-daily use is important for the desensitising and anti-plaque effects, so try to maintain a regular routine.
