Tazido 200mg Tablet 6s is an antibiotic used to treat serious skin and soft tissue infections, including those caused by methicillin‑resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). It belongs to a group of medicines called oxazolidinones, which act by stopping bacteria from making essential proteins they need to grow. This medicine is usually prescribed as a short, once‑daily course, most often for 6 days, and is available for both oral and intravenous use. It is generally reserved for infections where other commonly used antibiotics may not be suitable or effective.
Tazido 200mg Tablet 6s is a prodrug, which means it is converted in the body to its active form, tedizolid, after you take it. Once converted, tedizolid works against many Gram‑positive bacteria, including MRSA and certain strains that are resistant to other antibiotics such as linezolid. Because of its strong activity, good oral absorption, and long half‑life, it can be given once a day, usually for a shorter duration than some older antibiotics used for similar infections.
Doctors typically prescribe Tazido 200mg Tablet 6s for acute bacterial skin and skin structure infections (ABSSSI) in adults and in children above a certain weight threshold. It can be started as an intravenous infusion in a hospital and then switched to tablets once the patient is stable, without changing the dose. Most people tolerate this medicine well, but like all antibiotics, it can cause side effects and must be used exactly as directed to reduce the risk of resistance and complications such as severe antibiotic‑associated diarrhoea.
Used to treat moderate to severe skin infections such as cellulitis, wound infections, or major abscesses caused by susceptible bacteria, including MRSA.
Considered when infections are known or strongly suspected to be caused by resistant organisms, where other options may not work well.
May be used to continue treatment as tablets after initial intravenous therapy in the hospital, helping shorten hospital stay while maintaining effective antibiotic coverage.
While many people take Tazido 200mg Tablet 6s without major problems, some side effects can occur. Inform your doctor if any symptoms bother you or do not improve.
Take Tazido 200mg Tablet 6s exactly as prescribed by your doctor. The usual adult dose for skin infections is 200 mg once a day for 6 days, but only your doctor can decide what is right for you. You can take the tablet with or without food, at roughly the same time each day, to maintain steady levels in your body. Swallow the tablet whole with water.
Complete the full course, even if you start to feel better before the last dose, because stopping early can allow the infection to come back and increase the risk of antibiotic resistance. If you vomit soon after a dose and are unsure whether the tablet was absorbed, contact your doctor for advice rather than taking an extra tablet on your own.
Moderate alcohol is unlikely to directly interfere with tedizolid, but alcohol may worsen dizziness or stomach upset and can interfere with recovery from infection.
There is limited information on the use of tedizolid in pregnant women, so it should only be used if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the baby.
It is not clearly known whether tedizolid passes into human breast milk; your doctor will weigh the need for treatment against the potential risk to the infant and may advise monitoring or an alternative antibiotic.
Headache, dizziness, or visual disturbances can affect your ability to drive or operate machines; do not drive if you feel unwell or your vision is not clear.
Tedizolid is mainly cleared by the liver; people with moderate or severe liver problems should use it carefully and under close medical supervision.
No routine dose adjustment is usually required in mild to moderate kidney impairment, but patients with severe kidney disease or on dialysis should follow specialist advice.
Tedizolid tablets can be taken with or without food, and food does not significantly reduce its effectiveness.
Rest, adequate fluids, and good skin hygiene help recovery; avoid skipping doses, and inform your doctor about all other medicines or supplements you take.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember on the same day. If it is nearly time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and take the next one at the regular time. Do not take two doses at once or extra doses to make up for the one you missed, as this may increase the risk of side effects without improving your infection. If you miss more than one dose, contact your doctor to discuss whether your treatment course needs to be adjusted.
