Rabies is a serious disease caused by a virus. Rabishield 100IU Injection is given one is bitten by an infected animal. Post-exposure rabies prophylaxis (PEP) is necessary if you are bitten by a dog, cat, or other animals that are rabid or is suspected to be infected with the rabies virus. Rabishield 100IU Injection is to be administered as post-exposure prophylaxis after trained healthcare personnel's approval. If a person is bitten by an animal, wash wounds and scratches immediately with soap and water for about 15 minutes. This medicine is generally administered by a doctor or a nurse at a hospital or clinical set-up and should not be self-administered. People at high risk of exposure to rabies, such as veterinarians, animal handlers, rabies laboratory workers, and rabies biologics production workers are given pre-exposure prophylaxis. The pre-exposure schedule for rabies vaccination is 3 doses. Ask your doctor about the same. Common side effects of this medicine include injection site reactions (such as pain, redness, and swelling), headache, muscle pain, and upper respiratory tract infection. If you experience any of these which do no resolve on their own or get worse, let your doctor know.

In Treatment of Rabies Rabies is a serious disease caused by a virus that is usually transmitted through the bite of an infected animal such as a stray dog. Rabishield 100IU Injection helps protect those individuals who either have been bitten by a suspected rabid animal (dog, cat, monkey, rabbit, etc.) or are at a higher risk of getting this disease (veterinarians, animal handlers, rabies laboratory workers, etc.). It is given only by a doctor or a nurse and should not be self-administered. The bulk of the medicine is injected in and around the bite wound and any leftover medicine is injected into a muscle. If bitten, wash and flush the bite wound with soap and water, apply an Iodine containing cream (such as betadine) over the wound and visit the nearest health care center as soon as possible to receive treatment.

It is used for a bite that has passed through the skin by a suspected rabid animal (dog, cat, monkey, rabbit, etc.).
