Nixkuf Ls Syrup is indicated for the relief of productive (wet) cough in conditions such as acute and chronic bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and other lower respiratory tract infections. It contains Ambroxol, a mucolytic agent that breaks down thick bronchial mucus (phlegm); Guaifenesin, an expectorant that helps clear phlegm from the airways; and Levosalbutamol, a bronchodilator that helps open the airways for easier breathing. Together, this formulation helps reduce coughing, clear chest congestion, and make breathing more comfortable when taken as advised by a doctor.
Nixkuf Ls Syrup is a respiratory medication used to provide symptomatic relief in patients with a productive (wet) cough associated with bronchitis and chest congestion.
Composition and Mechanism: Nixkuf Ls Syrup is a multi-component formulation which contains Ambroxol, a mucolytic agent that helps break down sticky, thick mucus and makes it easier to expel from the airways. Guaifenesin is an expectorant that increases the volume and fluidity of respiratory secretions, helping clear mucus from the chest. Levosalbutamol is a bronchodilator that relaxes bronchial smooth muscles, helping to widen the airways and improve airflow.
Major Therapeutic Uses: This medicine is primarily advised for symptomatic relief of productive (wet) cough associated with bronchitis, chest congestion, and other lower respiratory tract infections. This formulation helps reduce coughing, clears phlegm from the chest, and relieves associated symptoms such as chest tightness, wheezing, and difficulty in breathing.
Benefits and Precautions: The main benefit of Nixkuf Ls Syrup is that it helps remove thick mucus from the chest, relaxes the airways, and improves overall breathing comfort. Together, this formulation also relieves productive cough, chest congestion, and airway tightness. However, some precautions are important, as Levosalbutamol may increase heart rate or cause palpitations. Use with caution in patients with diabetes or thyroid disorders, especially with prolonged use, as it may affect blood sugar levels.
Medical Supervision and Risks: Nixkuf Ls Syrup is intended for short-term use and should not be used for more than 7 consecutive days without medical advice, as this medication provides symptomatic relief but does not address the underlying cause. Appropriate additional therapy may be required for complete recovery based on the patient’s condition.
Nixkuf Ls Syrup is used to help manage symptoms in respiratory conditions where mucus is thick, excessive, or difficult to clear. It is commonly prescribed for:
Clearing excessive or sticky mucus from the airways in respiratory diseases, making cough more productive.
Treatment of acute and chronic bronchitis and bronchopulmonary conditions with increased mucus production.
Helps open narrowed airways in patients experiencing wheezing or mild bronchospasm along with mucus-producing cough.
Assist in reducing mucus accumulation in the chest, allowing easier breathing when the air passage becomes narrow.
When taken as directed, Nixkuf Ls Syrup is generally well tolerated. Side effects, if they occur, are usually mild and temporary.
Nixkuf Ls Syrup should be taken exactly as prescribed by your physician. It is usually taken in syrup or tablet form, depending on the age group and patient convenience. Take the medicine after food if advised, and drink adequate fluids during treatment to aid mucus clearance. Syrup formulations are usually measured using a dosing cup or spoon. Maintain the recommended dosing schedule and do not exceed the prescribed dose.
Nixkuf Ls Syrup uses a multi-targeted approach, with each component targeting specific symptoms of respiratory disorders.
Ambroxol is a mucolytic agent which thins mucus in the respiratory tract by breaking down mucopolysaccharide fibers, enhancing ciliary movement, and promoting mucus clearance. Ambroxol also produces mild local anaesthetic effects on the airway mucosa. Guaifenesin helps loosen mucus by increasing fluid in the airways. This added fluid dilutes the loosened mucus, making it easier to move toward the throat, where it can be coughed out. Levosalbutamol is a bronchodilator that works by selectively stimulating β2-adrenergic receptors in airway smooth muscle, causing them to relax. This leads to widening of the airways (bronchodilation) and helps improve breathing, especially in conditions like asthma and bronchospasm.
Together, these actions help loosen and clear mucus, reduce airway obstruction, and promote easier breathing, providing effective relief in productive cough and respiratory conditions.
Small amounts of ambroxol and levosalbutamol may pass into breast milk.
Use only if prescribed because Levosalbutamol may increase heart rate.
Dizziness or tremors may occur; avoid driving if affected.
Alcohol may increase the side effects such as dizziness.
Ambroxol metabolised in the liver. Dose adjustment may be required in hepatic impairment.
Consult your doctor if you have a history of impaired kidney function.
While Nixkuf Ls Syrup can generally be taken with food, some dietary factors may influence tolerability.
Nixkuf Ls Syrup may interact with other medicines that affect the cardiovascular or nervous system, particularly those influencing heart rate or causing stimulation.
Nixkuf Ls Syrup should be used carefully in patients with certain medical conditions.
Always take care to follow the prescribed dose. Taking more than recommended may cause mild symptoms such as palpitations, slight tremors, or stomach discomfort. In rare cases, more noticeable effects on heart rate may occur. If an overdose is suspected, seek medical attention promptly.
If you miss a dose, take it when you remember unless it is close to your next scheduled dose. Skip the missed dose if necessary and continue normally. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one, as this may increase the risk of side effects such as palpitations, tremors, or an increased heart rate due to levosalbutamol. Irregular use may reduce the effectiveness of symptom relief.
