Metrogyl Dg La Gel 15gm is a combination of Chlorhexidine Gluconate (Chlorhexidine Gluconate), a broad-spectrum antiseptic, and Metronidazole (Metronidazole), an antibacterial agent active mainly against anaerobic bacteria. It is used as an adjunct in the management of periodontal infections, gingivitis, and plaque-related gum disease. The combination helps reduce microbial load in the oral cavity and supports control of gum inflammation when used along with regular dental hygiene practices.
Metrogyl Dg La Gel 15gm is a combination therapy formulated with Chlorhexidine Gluconate, a broad‑spectrum antiseptic, and Metronidazole, an antibiotic active against anaerobic bacteria. It is indicated for the local management of periodontal infections such as gingivitis and periodontitis, and may also be used to help reduce infection risk following oral surgical procedures.
Metronidazole provides antibacterial activity against anaerobic organisms frequently present in periodontal pockets. By interfering with bacterial DNA synthesis, it helps control bacterial growth and supports the resolution of infection.
Chlorhexidine Gluconate reduces microbial load on oral surfaces. It binds to teeth and mucosa, remaining active for several hours and limiting recolonisation of bacteria and fungi. This sustained antiseptic effect supports plaque control and contributes to reduced gum inflammation.
The product is commonly formulated as a bio‑adhesive gel, ensuring prolonged contact with affected gum tissues. This localised delivery enhances antimicrobial activity at the site of infection and promotes healing.
Adverse effects may occur, including temporary tooth staining, mild taste changes, or oral irritation. Hypersensitivity reactions are uncommon but may develop. Most effects are reversible and manageable under professional supervision.
Dentists and doctors may prescribe Metrogyl Dg La Gel 15gm for:
Treatment of acute and chronic periodontitis or severe gingivitis.
Management of infection and inflammation around a partially erupted tooth (often a wisdom tooth).
Also known as ANUG (Acute Necrotising Ulcerative Gingivitis).
To prevent bacterial colonisation following tooth extractions, dental implants, or gum surgery.
To treat or prevent secondary bacterial infection in significant oral sores.
Metrogyl Dg La Gel 15gm provides benefits such as:
Metrogyl Dg La Gel 15gm is generally well tolerated, but some localised effects are to be expected.
It should be used exactly as prescribed by a dentist or healthcare professional.
Metrogyl Dg La Gel 15gm utilises two distinct pathways to clear oral infections:
Store Metrogyl Dg La Gel 15gm at room temperature in a cool, dry place. Keep the tube tightly closed when not in use and protect it from direct sunlight. Ensure it is stored out of the reach of children and pets.
Ingesting a large amount of the gel may cause nausea, dizziness, or a metallic taste. If accidental ingestion occurs, contact a healthcare professional or a poison control center for guidance.
If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one. Do not apply a double amount of gel to compensate.
