Detailed Description

Flylep OD 25mg Tablet DT 10s is a prescription medication that functions as a voltage-gated sodium channel blocker. In the brain, excessive or rapid firing of neurons can lead to seizures or extreme mood shifts. Lamotrigine helps stabilize these neuronal membranes by inhibiting the release of excitatory neurotransmitters, particularly glutamate and aspartate.

For patients with epilepsy, Flylep OD 25mg Tablet DT 10s is used to treat partial-onset seizures, primary generalized tonic-clonic seizures, and seizures associated with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. In the context of bipolar disorder, it is used for maintenance treatment to delay or prevent the occurrence of mood episodes (depression, mania, hypomania). It is particularly effective at delaying the time to relapse into depression. Because of the risk of serious skin reactions, the dosage of Flylep OD 25mg Tablet DT 10s must be increased very slowly (titrated) over several weeks to allow the body to adjust safely.

  • Blurred or double vision
  • Dry mouth
  • Mild skin rash (Non-serious)
Uncommon Side Effects

  • Blood Disorders: Unusual bruising, bleeding, or persistent fever.

Directions for Use

Flylep OD 25mg Tablet DT 10s must be taken exactly as prescribed. The dose is usually started very low and increased every two weeks, a process called titration.

  • Take it at the same time every day, with or without food.
  • Swallow the tablet whole; do not crush or chew unless it is a dispersible version.
  • Never skip doses or stop taking it suddenly, as this can trigger seizures or a mood relapse.
  • If you stop taking it for more than a few days, contact your doctor before restarting, as you may need to start the titration process over again.

How it works

Flylep OD 25mg Tablet DT 10s stabilizes electrical activity in the brain through the following actions:

  • Sodium Channel Inhibition: It binds to voltage-gated sodium channels, keeping them in an inactive state. This prevents the high-frequency firing of neurons that causes seizures.
  • Neurotransmitter Regulation: By stabilizing the neuronal membrane, it inhibits the release of Glutamate, the brain's primary excitatory chemical.
  • Mood Stabilization: By reducing "neuronal excitability," it helps prevent the brain from entering the overactive states that lead to mania or the depleted states that lead to depression.

Quick Tips for Flylep OD 25mg Tablet DT 10s

  • The "Slow" Rule: Never rush the dosage increases. Increasing the dose too fast is the primary risk factor for the serious SJS rash.
  • Monitor Skin: If you develop any rash, even a mild one, contact your doctor immediately. While most rashes are harmless, a professional must confirm it is not serious.
  • Monitor Mood: Keep a mood diary to track how well the medication is working, especially during the first few months.
  • Eye Care: If you experience blurred or double vision, inform your doctor; this is often a sign the dose is a bit too high.

Drug-Food Interaction

  • FOOD (NO INTERACTION): Absorption is not significantly affected by meals.
  • Alcohol (CAUTION): Increases central nervous system depression and impairs motor skills.

Interactions with Other Drugs

  • Valproate (SEVERE): Significantly increases Lamotrigine levels; the dose of Flylep OD 25mg Tablet DT 10s must be cut by more than half.
  • Estrogen-containing Birth Control (MODERATE): Can lower Lamotrigine levels by up to 50%, potentially making it less effective.
  • Carbamazepine/Phenytoin (MODERATE): These drugs can lower Lamotrigine levels, requiring a higher dose.

Drug-Disease Interactions

  • Renal/Hepatic Impairment (MODERATE): Requires careful monitoring and dose titration.
  • Depression (CAUTION): All anticonvulsants carry a warning regarding increased risk of suicidal ideation.
  • Heart Disease (CAUTION): Use with caution in patients with underlying cardiac conduction issues.

What If You Forget to take Flylep OD 25mg Tablet DT 10s?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one. Do not take a double dose. If you miss more than three days of doses, call your doctor immediately.
