Fitzam 5mg Tablet contains clobazam and is used to manage epilepsy, seizure disorders, and certain anxiety-related conditions under medical supervision. Seizures occur when abnormal electrical activity in the brain causes sudden changes in movement, awareness, or behaviour. Clobazam belongs to the benzodiazepine group and helps calm excessive brain activity, reducing seizure frequency and severity. Fitzam 5mg Tablet may be prescribed alone or more commonly in combination with other anti-epileptic medicines, particularly when seizure control is not fully achieved with a single treatment.
Fitzam 5mg Tablet contains clobazam, a long-acting benzodiazepine used primarily as an adjunctive treatment for epilepsy and seizure disorders. It is especially useful in patients with difficult-to-control seizures, including Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, and may also be prescribed for short-term relief of severe anxiety in selected cases.
Clobazam works by enhancing the effect of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), a natural inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain. By increasing GABA activity, it reduces abnormal electrical signalling in the central nervous system and helps stabilise brain activity.
Unlike some other benzodiazepines, clobazam has a relatively longer duration of action and is often better tolerated for seizure management. It helps reduce seizure frequency, supports better neurological stability, and may improve quality of life in patients requiring long-term seizure control.
Fitzam 5mg Tablet is beneficial in adults and children when used as part of a structured epilepsy treatment plan. The medicine usually begins acting within a few hours, although seizure control may improve gradually with regular dosing. Clobazam is metabolised in the liver and eliminated through urine, so patients with liver impairment may require dose adjustment. When taken as prescribed, Fitzam 5mg Tablet provides effective seizure control and neurological support, but prolonged use requires careful monitoring because dependence and tolerance can develop.
Used as add-on therapy for partial seizures, generalised seizures, and refractory epilepsy.
Commonly prescribed as adjunctive therapy for seizure reduction in this severe epilepsy syndrome.
In selected cases, used for short-term management of severe anxiety when other treatments are unsuitable.
May be used under specialist supervision in seizure emergencies as part of broader treatment.
When taken as directed, Fitzam 5mg Tablet is generally effective, but side effects may occur, especially during initiation or dose increases.
Drowsiness and Sleepiness: Sedation is common, especially at the beginning of treatment.
Fitzam 5mg Tablet should be taken exactly as prescribed by your physician. The dose depends on age, weight, seizure type, and response to treatment. Tablets are usually taken once or twice daily, with or without food, at the same time each day. Swallow the tablet whole with water. In epilepsy, treatment often begins with a lower dose that is increased gradually. Do not alter the dose without medical advice.
Alcohol increases drowsiness, sedation, and breathing suppression. Avoid alcohol during treatment.
Clobazam may affect foetal development. Use only when clearly necessary under specialist supervision.
Small amounts may pass into breast milk and affect the infant.
May cause drowsiness, slowed reactions, or poor concentration. Avoid driving until effects are known.
Liver disease may slow drug metabolism and require dose adjustment.
Severe kidney impairment may require monitoring.
Can be taken with or without food.
Maintain regular sleep, avoid seizure triggers, and adhere strictly to dosing schedule.
While Fitzam 5mg Tablet can be taken with or without food, some factors may affect safety.
Fitzam 5mg Tablet can interact with medicines affecting the brain or liver metabolism.
Fitzam 5mg Tablet should be used carefully in certain medical conditions.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is nearly time for the next scheduled dose. If the next dose is close, skip the missed one and continue your normal dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose. Missing doses may reduce seizure control and increase seizure risk.
