Nateglinide is used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus.
How it Works
How Nateglinide works Nateglinide is an anti-diabetic medication that increases the amount of insulin released by the pancreas, preventing blood glucose levels from rising too high after meals.
Side Effects
Common side effects of Nateglinide include dizziness, back pain, diarrhea, flu-like symptoms, upper respiratory tract infections, and arthropathy.
Expert Advice
- It may cause dizziness. Do not drive or engage in activities that require mental focus until you are aware of how Nateglinide affects you.
- Nateglinide may cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level) when used with other antidiabetic medications, alcohol, or if you delay or miss a meal.
- Always carry some sugary food or fruit juice with you in case you experience hypoglycemic symptoms such as:
- Cold sweats
- Cool, pale skin
- Tremor
- Anxiety
- Monitor your blood sugar levels regularly while taking this medication.
- Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
- Nateglinide provides fast and effective control of high blood sugar levels following meals.
- For best results, take Nateglinide 15 to 30 minutes before a meal.
- If you miss a meal, skip your dose to avoid hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level).
- You should continue to exercise regularly, eat a healthy diet, and take your other diabetes medications alongside Nateglinide.
