Magnesium Sulphate is used in the treatment of seizures in pregnant women with high blood pressure and low magnesium levels in the blood.
How Magnesium Sulphate Works Magnesium sulphate is a mineral salt and a micronutrient with anti-inflammatory and laxative properties. It replaces magnesium in individuals with magnesium deficiency and at the site of edema in cases of injury. Additionally, it decreases nerve impulses to the heart muscles. In the intestine, magnesium sulphate helps retain water in the colon, increasing mobility and facilitating bowel evacuation.
Common side effects of magnesium sulfate include flushing (a sense of warmth in the face, ears, neck, and trunk), injection site reactions (such as pain, swelling, and redness), sweating, increased thirst, metabolism disorders, nutritional disorders, and electrolyte imbalance.
