How Liquid Paraffin works Liquid paraffin is an emollient, a substance that softens or soothes the skin. It functions by preventing water loss from the outer layer of the skin, which alleviates dryness and leaves the skin soft and hydrated.

- Together with Liquid Paraffin, a fiber-rich diet containing whole grain bread and cereals, bran, fruits, and green leafy vegetables is essential for maintaining healthy bowel function.
- Avoid taking Liquid Paraffin for more than 1 week, unless prescribed by a doctor, as it may lead to dependency on its laxative action to produce a bowel movement.
- Take Liquid Paraffin 2 hours after other medications, as it may interfere with their absorption.
- Liquid Paraffin should preferably be taken at bedtime, as it requires 6 to 8 hours to show an effect.
- Liquid Paraffin may be taken with milk or fruit juice to improve the flavor.
