How Erythromycin works Erythromycin is an antibiotic that functions by inhibiting the synthesis of essential proteins required by bacteria to perform vital functions. Consequently, it stops bacterial growth and prevents the infection from spreading.

Expert Advice

  • Your doctor has prescribed Erythromycin to treat your infection and alleviate your symptoms.
  • Do not skip any doses and complete the full course of treatment, even if you start to feel better.
  • Stopping the medication early may cause the infection to return and make it harder to treat.
  • Take Erythromycin 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals.
  • Avoid taking antacids 2 hours before or after taking Erythromycin.
