Framycetin is an antibiotic that inhibits bacterial growth in the eye by preventing the synthesis of essential proteins required by bacteria to perform vital functions. Dexamethasone is a steroid that blocks the production of certain chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that cause the eye to become red, swollen, and itchy.
