Budesonide is used in the treatment of allergic conditions, asthma, and ulcerative colitis.

How it Works

How Budesonide works: Budesonide is a steroid that functions by inhibiting the production of specific chemical messengers in the body responsible for causing inflammation (redness and swelling) and allergic reactions.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Budesonide include headache, abdominal pain, depression, joint pain, Cushing syndrome, dyspepsia, increased risk of infection, muscle pain, muscle weakness, muscle twitching, osteoporosis, irritability, and euphoria (a feeling of intense excitement and happiness).

Expert Advice

Budesonide ‘dampens down’ inflammation in the lungs to provide long-term (maintenance) treatment of asthma and prevent disease progression.
Budesonide will not work for an ongoing asthma attack; use your rescue inhaler to control sudden difficulty in breathing.
Gargle with warm water after each inhalation to avoid any fungal infections in your mouth and throat.
Take Budesonide at the same time every day to help prevent asthma attacks.
Never breathe out into the mouthpiece of the inhaler.
Only minuscule amounts of Budesonide may be absorbed into the bloodstream after inhalation; hence, serious side effects such as weight gain are unlikely.
Learn the correct technique for using metered dose inhalers (MDI) and dry powder inhalers (DPI) to ensure that the right amount of medication reaches your lungs and minimizes side effects.
Do not open and close the cover unnecessarily, as this may result in loss of medication.
