Xylometazoline
Uses
Xylometazoline is used to treat nasal congestion, uveitis, pupil dilation, conjunctivitis, and eye irritation. It alleviates congestion associated with allergies, hay fever, sinus irritation, and the common cold.

How Xylometazoline works Xylometazoline is a decongestant. It works by constricting small blood vessels, providing temporary relief from inflammation, including redness and swelling, as well as discomfort.

- Xylometazoline works immediately, providing relief for up to 12 hours.
- The correct way to use the nasal spray includes the following steps:
- Shake the bottle before using the medication.
- Clean your nose thoroughly prior to application.
- Insert the bottle tip into one nostril and close the other nostril.
- Direct the spray towards the sides of your nostril, avoiding the cartilage that divides the two sides of your nose.
- Breathe out gently through your mouth and repeat the same process for the other nostril.
- Xylometazoline can worsen nasal congestion if used for more than 7 consecutive days (known as rebound congestion).
- Avoid deep breathing, as it may cause the medication to travel back to the throat, reducing its effectiveness.
- Do not share the bottle with anyone else to prevent the spread of germs.
