Triptorelin is used for prostate cancer, endometriosis, uterine fibroids, precocious puberty, and female infertility.
How Triptorelin works Triptorelin reduces the levels of sex hormones, specifically testosterone in men and estrogen in women. It functions by decreasing blood testosterone levels in males. Additionally, Triptorelin inhibits hormone production by the ovaries, leading to a reduction in estrogen levels, which is one of the hormones responsible for regulating the menstrual cycle in females.
Common side effects of Triptorelin include impotence, dizziness, headache, high blood pressure, joint pain, testicular atrophy, breast pain, fatigue, bone pain, and injection site reactions (pain, swelling, redness). Other side effects may include hot flushes, leg pain, vomiting, urinary tract infection, urinary retention, swelling of the legs, discomfort when urinating, influenza, bronchitis (inflammation of the airways), vaginal bleeding, cough, and infection.
