Side Effects

Common side effects of Tipiracil and Trifluridine include anemia (low red blood cell count), decreased white blood cell count (neutrophils), fatigue, nausea, low platelet count, decreased appetite, diarrhea, fever, and vomiting.

  • Avoid the use of antacids within two hours of taking this medicine.
  • Drink plenty of water every 24 hours after the start of the treatment.
  • You may be at risk of infection; therefore, try to avoid crowds or individuals with colds, and report fever or any other signs of infection immediately to your doctor.
  • To help treat/prevent mouth sores:
    • Use a soft toothbrush.
    • Rinse your mouth at least 3 times a day with saline water.
  • To reduce nausea:
    • Take anti-nausea medications as prescribed by your doctor.
    • Eat small, frequent meals.
  • Consume foods that may help reduce diarrhea and ensure adequate rest.
  • Use contraceptives, and do not conceive a child (get pregnant) while taking Tipiracil + Trifluridine.
  • Barrier methods of contraception, such as condoms, should be used during therapy and for 6 months after treatment.
