How Teriparatide Works Teriparatide is a synthetic form of the natural human hormone known as parathyroid hormone (PTH). It functions by increasing both the number and activity of bone-forming cells, called osteoblasts. This process strengthens the bones and reduces the risk of fractures.

Common side effects of Teriparatide include nausea, joint pain, headache, dizziness, weakness, constipation, pain, high blood pressure, diarrhea, dyspepsia, inflammation of the nose, cough, and pharyngitis.

  • Teriparatide should be injected daily via subcutaneous injection in the thigh or abdomen.
  • Do not use Teriparatide for more than 2 years.
