Teicoplanin Uses Teicoplanin is used in the treatment of severe bacterial infections. It is effective against infections of the skin and soft tissues, blood, heart, bones, and lungs (pneumonia).

How it Works

How Teicoplanin works Teicoplanin is an antibiotic that kills bacteria by inhibiting the formation of their protective covering, known as the cell wall, which is essential for their survival.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Teicoplanin include fever, itching, rash, erythema (skin redness), and pain.

Expert Advice

  • Teicoplanin is used for treating serious bacterial infections that cannot be effectively treated with other antibiotics, such as penicillins and cephalosporins.
  • Complete the prescribed course of treatment, even if you start to feel better. Stopping early may allow the infection to return and make it more difficult to treat.
  • Teicoplanin is administered via injection or infusion into a vein or muscle.
  • Exercise caution while driving or engaging in activities that require concentration, as Teicoplanin may cause dizziness and headaches.
  • Avoid taking Teicoplanin if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
