Tazarotene is used in the treatment of psoriasis and acne.
How it Works
How Tazarotene works Tazarotene is a form of vitamin A. It functions by slowing the rapid growth of skin cells and blocking certain substances that cause inflammation, such as redness and swelling. This action reduces scaling and thickening of the skin in psoriasis and helps to clear acne.
Side Effects
Common side effects of Tazarotene include dry skin, erythema (skin redness), irritation, itching, skin peeling, burning sensation, stinging sensation, worsening of psoriasis, and skin pain.

- Tazarotene should be applied according to the dose and duration recommended by your doctor.
- Complete the full course of treatment, even if you start to feel better.
- Wash your hands thoroughly before and after applying the medication.
- Avoid contact with the eyes, nose, or mouth.
- If accidental exposure occurs, rinse the area immediately with plenty of water.
- Avoid exposing your skin to strong sunlight; use a sunscreen lotion or ensure your skin is protected with clothing.
- Do not cover the treated area with airtight dressings, such as bandages, unless instructed by a doctor, as this may increase the risk of side effects.
- Inform your doctor if the infection has not resolved after four weeks of treatment.
