S-Etodolac contains Etodolac, a non‑steroidal anti‑inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to relieve pain and reduce inflammation. It is commonly prescribed for conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and acute pain. Etodolac works by inhibiting cyclo‑oxygenase (COX) enzymes, thereby decreasing the production of prostaglandins that cause pain, swelling, and stiffness.
S-Etodolac is a prescription NSAID used to manage acute pain and the signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. S-Etodolac possesses anti-inflammatory, analgesic (pain-relieving), and antipyretic (fever-reducing) properties.
This medicine works by inhibiting the enzyme cyclooxygenase (COX), which is responsible for the synthesis of prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are chemicals in the body that promote inflammation, pain, and fever.
Because this medication is available in several oral formats, including standard capsules, tablets, and extended-release tablets, it allows for adaptable management based on whether the patient needs immediate pain relief or sustained daily control.
You should not use S-Etodolac if you have a known severe allergy to S-Etodolac or a history of asthma, hives, or other allergic-type reactions after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs. To ensure this medicine is safe for you, use the lowest effective dose for the shortest possible duration.
This medicine is typically prescribed under medical supervision for the following conditions:
To relieve the signs and symptoms of degenerative joint disease.
To manage chronic inflammation and pain in the joints.
To treat mild to moderate short-term pain, such as dental pain or post-surgical discomfort.
S-Etodolac may cause side effects.
S-Etodolac is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that exhibits anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antipyretic activities. Its mechanism of action, like that of other NSAIDs, involves the inhibition of cyclooxygenase (COX), leading to a reduction in prostaglandin synthesis in various tissues.
Use of NSAIDs, including S-Etodolac, at 20 weeks or later in pregnancy may cause rare but serious kidney problems in an unborn baby and low amniotic fluid. Do not use after 30 weeks of pregnancy.
S-Etodolac passes into breast milk in small amounts. It is generally considered compatible with breastfeeding, but consult your doctor to ensure it is the best choice for your situation.
Avoid drinking alcohol while taking S-Etodolac. Alcohol can increase your risk of stomach bleeding caused by NSAIDs.
This medication does not usually affect your ability to drive. However, if you feel dizzy or experience blurred vision, do not drive or operate machinery.
Tell your doctor if you have liver disease. Your doctor may need to monitor your liver function or adjust your therapy.
Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use. Keep all drugs out of the reach of children and pets.
Tell your doctor about all your other medicines, especially:
Tell your doctor if you have ever had:
The dose of S-Etodolac depends on the condition being treated and your response to therapy. For acute pain, typical doses are 200mg to 400mg every 6 to 8 hours. For arthritis, doses often range from 600mg to 1000mg per day, taken in divided doses or as a single extended-release dose. Your doctor will determine the exact dose appropriate for you.
Symptoms of an acute NSAID overdose may include lethargy, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, and epigastric pain. Gastrointestinal bleeding can also occur. If an overdose is suspected, seek medical advice or contact the Poison Help line right away.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not take extra medicine or use a double dose to make up for a missed one.
