Piperazine

Uses

Piperazine is used to treat worm infections.

How it Works

How Piperazine works Piperazine belongs to a class of drugs known as anthelmintics. It works by paralyzing worms, allowing them to be expelled in the stool. It is effective against intestinal nematodes such as roundworm (Ascaris lumbricoides), pinworm, and threadworm (Enterobius vermicularis). Piperazine produces a neuromuscular block that leads to muscle paralysis in the worms, which are subsequently dislodged and expelled in the feces.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Piperazine include nausea, headache, vomiting, dizziness, abnormal liver function tests, fever, abdominal pain, hair loss, and vertigo.
