Uses
Pilocarpine is used in the treatment of dry mouth following radiotherapy for head and neck cancer.
How it Works
How Pilocarpine works Pilocarpine is a cholinergic agonist. It functions by stimulating specific nerves and glands in the body, which increases the production of saliva, tears, sweat, digestive juices, and other secretions.
Side Effects
Common side effects of Pilocarpine include headache, dizziness, blurred vision, diarrhea, stinging in the eyes, superficial keratitis, burning eyes, eye itching, eye redness, and increased lacrimation (flow of tears).
