Oxymetazoline Uses Oxymetazoline is used to treat nasal congestion, uveitis, pupil dilation, conjunctivitis, and eye irritation. It alleviates congestion associated with allergies, hay fever, sinus irritation, and the common cold.

How it Works

How Oxymetazoline works: Oxymetazoline is a decongestant that works by constricting small blood vessels, providing temporary relief from inflammation, redness, swelling, and discomfort.

Side Effects

Common side effects of oxymetazoline include dryness, irritation, and sneezing.

Expert Advice

It works immediately, with each dose providing relief for up to 12 hours.
The correct way to use the nasal spray:

Shake the bottle before using the medication.
Clean your nose thoroughly before administration.
Insert the bottle tip into one nostril while closing the other nostril.
Direct the spray towards the sides of your nostril, avoiding the cartilage that divides the two sides of your nose.
Breathe out gently through your mouth and repeat the process for the other nostril.
Avoid deep breathing, as it may cause the medication to travel back to the throat, reducing its effectiveness.
Do not share the bottle with anyone else to prevent the spread of germs.

Oxymetazoline can worsen nasal congestion if used for more than 3 or 4 consecutive days (known as rebound congestion).
