Netarsudil

Uses

Netarsudil is used in the treatment of glaucoma and ocular hypertension.

How it Works

How Netarsudil works Netarsudil contains netarsudil, a rho kinase inhibitor, which is believed to reduce intraocular pressure (IOP) by increasing the outflow of aqueous humor through the trabecular meshwork route. Aqueous humor is a transparent, water-like fluid in the eye that bathes and nourishes the lens while maintaining pressure within the eye. This mechanism helps to treat glaucoma and ocular hypertension.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Netarsudil include conjunctival hyperemia, conjunctival hemorrhage, corneal staining, blurred vision, corneal verticillata, injection site reactions (pain, swelling, redness), increased lacrimation, eyelid redness, and reduced visual acuity.

Expert Advice

  • Netarsudil helps lower high pressure in the eye and reduces the risk of vision loss.
  • Remove contact lenses before using Netarsudil, and wait at least 15 minutes before re-inserting them.
  • Apply pressure on the corner of the eye (close to the nose) for about 1 minute immediately after administering the medication. This will prevent the medication from draining out.
  • Avoid blinking or rubbing your eye.
  • For best results, apply one drop 2-3 times daily in the affected eye(s).
  • To avoid contamination, do not touch the dropper tip or allow it to come into contact with your eye or any other surface.
  • When applying multiple eye medications, wait at least 5-15 minutes before administering the next medication in the same eye to prevent dilution of the medicine.
