How Metolazone and Spironolactone Work Metolazone and Spironolactone is a combination of two diuretics: Metolazone and Spironolactone. They function by eliminating excess water and certain electrolytes from the body through urine. Over time, Metolazone also relaxes blood vessels but may lead to potassium loss. Spironolactone is included in the combination to conserve potassium, thus balancing its levels in the body.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Metolazone and Spironolactone include diarrhea, upset stomach, glucose intolerance, breast enlargement in males, irregular menstrual cycles, increased blood lipid levels, elevated uric acid levels in the blood, electrolyte imbalance, and impotence.
