Side Effects

Common side effects of Metformin and Methylcobalamin include nausea, abdominal pain, constipation, and hypoglycemia (low blood glucose level).

Expert Advice

  • Take it with food to avoid an upset stomach.
  • It does not cause weight gain and rarely leads to low blood sugar compared to other diabetes medications.
  • Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) may occur when taken with other antidiabetic medications, alcohol, or if a meal is delayed or skipped.
  • Always carry some sugary food or fruit juice in case you experience hypoglycemic symptoms such as:
    • Cold sweats
    • Cool, pale skin
    • Tremors
    • Anxiety
  • Your doctor will regularly monitor your blood sugar levels and kidney function while you are on this medication.
  • Inform your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following:
    • Deep or rapid breathing
    • Persistent nausea
    • Vomiting
    • Stomach pain
  • Metformin + Methylcobalamin may cause a rare but serious condition called lactic acidosis, which is an excess of lactic acid in the blood.
