Metformin, Pioglitazone, and Sitagliptin are used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus.
How Metformin, Pioglitazone, and Sitagliptin Work Metformin, Pioglitazone, and Sitagliptin is a combination of three antidiabetic medications. Metformin reduces the amount of glucose absorbed from food and the glucose produced by the liver. It also enhances the body's response to insulin, a natural substance that regulates blood glucose levels. Pioglitazone improves cellular responsiveness to insulin and increases insulin-dependent glucose utilization and disposal. Sitagliptin helps control blood sugar levels by increasing the levels of incretins in the body, which stimulate the pancreas to release more insulin. Additionally, it signals the liver to decrease glucose production when blood sugar levels are elevated.
Common side effects of Metformin, Pioglitazone, and Sitagliptin include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, flatulence, and constipation.
