Maraviroc

Uses

Maraviroc is used in the treatment of HIV infection.

How it Works

How Maraviroc works Maraviroc is a chemokine receptor antagonist. It exerts its action by binding to the human chemokine receptor CCR5, which is present on the membrane of CD4 cells (T-cells). This binding prevents the interaction of HIV with CCR5, a crucial step required for the HIV virus to enter human cells.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Maraviroc include nausea, rash, anemia (low red blood cell count), insomnia (difficulty sleeping), weakness, increased liver enzymes, abdominal pain, flatulence, loss of appetite, and depression.
