How it Works

How Iopromide works Iopromide belongs to a class of drugs known as iodinated radiographic contrast agents. It enhances imaging due to its high iodine content, which attenuates the beam of X-rays during examination.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Iopromide include headache, taste changes, vomiting, chest pain, injection site pain, back pain, nausea, infusion site reactions, abnormal vision, decreased blood pressure, and a frequent urge to urinate.

Expert Advice

  • Always keep yourself hydrated before the administration of any contrast media to prevent kidney damage due to dehydration.
  • Do not administer iopromide intrathecally (within the layers of the spine).
  • Inform your doctor if you have liver, kidney, or heart disease, or if you have had reactions to previous injections of iopromide used for x-ray procedures.
  • Inform your doctor if you are diabetic, have cancer, pheochromocytoma (adrenal gland tumor), a blood disorder (such as sickle cell anemia), a thyroid disorder, or a history of seizures (epilepsy), or any blood clotting problems.
  • Notify your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
  • Patients who are allergic to iopromide or any of its ingredients should not take it.
  • Children who have been administered a laxative or are dehydrated due to prolonged fasting should not take iopromide.
