How Indinavir works Indinavir is an anti-HIV medication. It works by interfering with an enzyme called protease, which is necessary for HIV-infected cells to produce new viruses. This action halts the production of new viruses.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Indinavir include headache, nausea, vomiting, kidney stones, abdominal pain, urolithiasis, and acid regurgitation.

  • Indinavir should be taken at least 1 hour before meals or 2 hours after meals.
  • Do not skip any doses and complete the full course of treatment, even if you feel better.
  • It may cause dizziness or sleepiness.
  • Do not drive or engage in activities that require concentration until you know how it affects you.
  • Your doctor may monitor your liver function regularly.
  • Inform your doctor if you experience abdominal pain, loss of appetite, darkened urine, or yellowing of the eyes or skin (jaundice).
