Hydrogen peroxide is used to prevent wound infections.

How it Works

How Hydrogen Peroxide Works Hydrogen peroxide is an oxidizing agent with antibacterial and antiviral properties. It is used as an antiseptic, disinfectant, and deodorant, and it also has a mild haemostatic effect. Its antiseptic action is partly due to the rapid release of oxygen when applied to tissues; however, this effect is diminished in the presence of organic matter. The mechanical action of effervescence may be more beneficial for wound cleansing than the antimicrobial properties.

Side Effects

Common side effects of hydrogen peroxide include erythema (skin redness), skin irritation, and a burning sensation.

Expert Advice

Hydrogen Peroxide should be applied to the skin 2 to 3 times a day or as directed by your doctor.
Do not skip any doses and complete the treatment course as advised.
Avoid contact with the eyes, mouth, or nose.
If accidental contact occurs, rinse the affected area with cold water.
Consult your doctor if your skin condition has not improved after 7 days of treatment.
Inform your doctor if redness and irritation persist for an extended period.
