How it Works

How Tetracycline and Hydrocortisone work Tetracycline and Hydrocortisone is a combination of two medicines: Tetracycline and Hydrocortisone. Tetracycline is an antibiotic that inhibits bacterial growth by preventing the synthesis of essential proteins required by bacteria to perform vital functions. Hydrocortisone is a steroid that blocks the production of certain chemical messengers (prostaglandins) responsible for causing redness, swelling, and itching in the affected area.

Expert Advice

  • Your doctor has prescribed Tetracycline + Hydrocortisone to treat bacterial infections of the eye.
  • Do not skip any doses and complete the full course of treatment, even if you feel better.
  • Apply pressure on the corner of the eye (near the nose) for about 1 minute immediately after instilling the drop.
  • If you wear soft contact lenses, remove them before applying these eye drops and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting your lenses.
  • Wait at least 5-10 minutes before administering the next medication in the same eye to avoid dilution.
  • A burning sensation may occur for 1-2 minutes. Notify your doctor if it persists for longer.
