Halobetasol is a steroid that blocks the production of certain chemical messengers (prostaglandins) responsible for making the skin red, swollen, and itchy. Mupirocin is an antibiotic that kills the bacteria causing skin infections by preventing the synthesis of essential proteins necessary for bacterial survival. Thus, it helps prevent the spread of the skin infection.
