How it Works
How Iodine, Potassium Iodide, Thymol, Menthol, Tannic Acid, and Glycerin Work Iodine, Potassium Iodide, Thymol, Menthol, Tannic Acid, and Glycerin are intended to treat mouth ulcers, cold sores, and swollen, bleeding gums. For the treatment of cold sores, fever blisters, and poison ivy, tannic acid works by precipitating the proteins that contract skin cells, which aids in healing and relieves irritation caused by mouth ulcers. It begins to kill bacteria and viruses due to its potent bactericidal activity. Camphor and menthol both have local analgesic effects, with menthol also providing a cooling sensation. Thymol acts as an antiseptic that helps eliminate gum infections.
Side Effects
Common side effects of iodine, potassium iodide, thymol, menthol, tannic acid, and glycerin include mouth irritation, nausea, upset stomach, rash, and acute toxicity.
