Gliclazide and Sitagliptin are used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus.
How Gliclazide and Sitagliptin work Gliclazide and Sitagliptin is a combination of two antidiabetic medications. Gliclazide increases the amount of insulin produced by the pancreas. Insulin reduces blood sugar levels by assisting cells in using and storing glucose. Sitagliptin helps to control blood sugar levels by increasing substances (incretins) in the body that stimulate the pancreas to release more insulin. It also signals the liver to stop producing glucose when blood sugar levels are elevated.
Common side effects of Gliclazide and Sitagliptin include upper respiratory tract infection, nasopharyngitis (inflammation of the throat and nasal passages), headache, hypoglycemia (low blood glucose level), abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, indigestion, diarrhea, and constipation.
