How Ketoconazole, Fluocinolone acetonide, Neomycin, and Menthol work Ketoconazole, Fluocinolone acetonide, Neomycin, and Menthol is a combination of four medications: Ketoconazole, Fluocinolone acetonide, Neomycin, and Menthol. Ketoconazole is an antifungal medication that kills fungi by destroying the fungal cell membrane, thereby treating the infection. Fluocinolone acetonide is a steroid that blocks the production of certain chemical messengers in the body that cause inflammation (redness, pain, and swelling) and allergies. Neomycin is an antibiotic that inhibits bacterial growth by preventing the synthesis of essential proteins required for bacteria to perform vital functions. Menthol is an extract from peppermint that provides a cooling effect on the skin. This combination works effectively to treat the infection.
